The New Normal
Father, You are worth praising and singing songs to 24/7/365! The redemption provided & the restoration work done through Jesus has reconciled broken, sinful humanity to You & brought you glory! You have conquered death & sin, and freed us all from guilt & shame. In raising Jesus from the dead, you have raised up all of us who will trust in Him, too. This is no small feat, nothing we could have done for ourselves, but this is the new normal for us, walking in the rhythms of Your good grace. Praises go to You, from whom all blessings flow! Amen!
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5 And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”
8 And they remembered his words, 9 and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, 11 but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. 12 But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.
Read that again.
Where do you find yourself today? Are you in awe of the empty grave? Does it sound like an idle tale? Are you daily running, seeking Jesus? Wherever you are, whatever state you find yourself in, we all find out that there is a decision we must make in regards to Jesus, and there is a new normal that must be established because of this decision.
If you are in awe, that’s good. We should be in awe of someone rising from the dead. It should be mysterious to us, perplexing and unusual. It’s not normal. Not at all. If people could rise from the dead, it would happen all the time. But we can’t, so it doesn’t. That’s what makes this a miracle. It’s beyond the normal & natural. This is a supernatural occurrence & stands out in all of human history. It’s okay to stare & gawk & question, so long as we are honest in our questions & honest with ourselves when the answer is shown to us. The grave is still empty to this day.
Does this seem like an idle tale to you? Fanciful, fairy tale type stuff made up for weak minds? If you can believe that everything in this universe came from nothing, in a moment outside of time, with absolutely no provocation, bringing everything into existence through a singular explosion & that order & life sprung from that cosmic accident, then you have already exhibited the ability to have faith in what seems to be pretty darned impossible. Look to Jesus again & again. Be honest with what you find, and seek out the evidence. Hundreds & thousands of people have done it before you, skeptical & unsure & found themselves moving from skeptical to awestruck. Be open. Be honest. Take the time & see for yourself.
Do you find yourself like Peter today? Running to the tomb & seeking an explanation? Are you awestruck, questioning & hopeful? Do you still marvel at what happened almost 2000 years ago & still provokes the world to this day? Go share that marvelous wonder & the new normal Jesus has brought into your life today. Be a flag-waver for Jesus, direct the traffic of humanity to the empty grave that no one else can boast about but Him. Show them what it means to walk in the rhythms of grace & to trust in the One whose power, love, grace & mercy knows no bounds. Be an ambassador for the Kingdom of God wherever He has placed you & seek out new roads & possibilities to share the Good News of our risen Savior today. Live in this victory!
